Bullying Prevention

The Olweus Program (pronounced Ol-VEY-us; the E sounds like a long A) is a comprehensive, school-wide program designed and evaluated for use in elementary, middle, and high schools. The program’s goals are to reduce and prevent bullying problems among school children and to improve peer relations at school. The program has been found to reduce bullying among children, improve the social climate of classrooms, and reduce related antisocial behaviors, such as vandalism and truancy.

In addition to the education component, which provides strategies and skills to address bullying, intervention is provided for all children involved in any bullying situation. The bully, the victim, and the bystander are all involved and affected in different ways within the situation. The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program has received recognition from a number of organizations committed to preventing school violence.

In partnership with Chula Vista Elementary School District and Sweetwater Union High School District, all CVPN schools will take part in the program.
