Researchers have consistently found that music instruction not only helps a student’s overall education, but it also improves academic performance. Research further tells us that children who study music tend to have larger vocabularies and have more advanced reading skills than their peers who do not participate in music lessons.
CVPromise is proud to support in-school music programs! In 2013 - 2014 school year, ALL Castle Park Elementary students received in-school music instruction. Each class received two music classes each week.
Primary lessons covered concepts such as music as a language, beat and rhythm, orchestral instrument families, and playing instruments (xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels and hand drums). Third graders also practiced the recorder. Upper lessons included melody, complex rhythm, staff notation in the treble, bass, and alto clefs, major scale theory, chord theory, and recently all 4th, 5th and 6th-grade students practiced on stringed instruments such as the violin, viola, and/or cello.
